Spring clean...

I'm actually finding it strangely therapeutic cleaning all my gear as I pack it. This place has been the dustiest place I've ever lived and thus everything has massive layers of dust on. So I've been taking my time. Y'know... Makin' a day of it and such. I now no longer have a desk to sit at so I'm on the floor typing. The bedroom's all but done now. Just a few stray items to put into boxes and the bed. I think I'm going to take that apart today as well and sleep on the mattress tonight. It'll be like camping or something. Soon all that will be left is the TV and that lot downstairs. Today's been a lot more productive than I have expected. Maybe I should go into work tomorrow seeing as how I don't have many toys plugged into walls any more.

Right... Time for soup, a can of diet coke and more spannering...

It's official... I have too much stuff

I got everything out of the under-the-stairs cupboard this evening to get at some of the old boxes I've used for the past couple of moves. I'd totally forgotten about some of the stuff under there like the sub woofer and the club PA speakers etc. I also seem to have even more records than when I last moved. I have filled 6 boxes of them so far and I probably have another two more to fill.

To that end I have decided to dump my entire video collection. It all takes up too much room. It anyone wants any of them and/or a free VCR then give me a shout. The only snag is you need to come pick 'em up yourself within the next week or so (also, the VCR isn't that good as its display is bust). Either you take 'em or they go to the local Cash Converters that my mate works at...

I think I'm going to be even more ruthless than I originally planned with kicking out stuff... I think I have to be...

Yesterday evening

I took my mate Jason to see the flat that I had found. I was a little bit worried as in the excitement of finding the place on Wednesday I'd totally forgot to memories the floor plan. I had a suspicion that the only shower in the flat was attached to one of the bedrooms. This would have been unacceptable. So we went back and low and behold, I was right. But... When we told the lady that was showing us around that we couldn't live like that she then told us that they were going to put a shower in the other small bathroom. They weren't going to do that if we had just accepted the place. I thought that was a little cheeky but what the hey?

So we put down our holding deposit and that was that. As long as the land lord doesn't change his/her mind between now and 27th the place is ours. Words cannot even begin to describe how much of a weight has been lifted from my mind. Now I can concentrate on the other aspects of moving like trying to work out where everything will go. I have an annoying suspicion that my shelving unit that I put all my records and everything else in is not going to fit which is a little annoying, but in the plus column, my table probably will so at least I can still host my sophisticated dinner parties... 'cos I'm fucking posh!

Then I popped round to Sinead's (my soon to be new neighbour) to continue fixing up her broadband. It was like pulling teeth. Damn you Wanado! I also found out that night that sweet chilli sauce on top of a peperoni pizza is the muts nuts. I shall be repeating that combo again, and soon!

So, what's the to do list look like now:

  • Hire window cleaner
  • Hire & use carpet steam cleaner
  • Hire large step ladder so that I can
    • Fix one of the smoke alarms
    • Maybe (I haven't decided yet) repaint the entire hall/stairway Decided I can't be arsed with this
  • Buy & use paint in at least my bedroom. I'm still wondering if I need to do the hallway and living room. I hope not as there is a lot of surface to paint there
  • Find a new place to live
  • Work out what I can take with me to the new place All done. The 'couch of doom' is going via the council collection service and all my studio gear is being picked up by my mate Ben as he's going to look after all that stuff for me.
  • Find a new home for the stuff that wont fit
    • This will probably involve phoning the council and arranging for them to dispose of my couch. (You win Kate) ;-) The council offer the service for about £20 or so. Job done!
  • Pack everything up
  • Throw away loads of shit - Chucked away a load of stuff on Wednesday. Will continue to do so over the coming weeks
  • Clean the entire house - Thia is going to be a lot easier now. I'm going to do all of this after I move out as I have 3 days between moving in to my new place and moving out of the old
  • Hire van - I was a bit worried about this as I'd have to return the van on a Monday and I don't have a driver on that day, BUT, my Dad will be up on the Monday to help with redecorating/cleaning so he can probably drive it back
  • Move
I'm feeling a lot more calmer than I was a few days ago. Knowing I have somewhere to go to is a good thing. (And even if it all falls through at the last moment, I have a back up plan... Basically It'll cost me about £120 a month to put all my stuff in storage so I'll just do that and kip on people's floors for a month)

    • Maybe (I haven't decided yet) repaint the entire hall/stairway
