I took my mate Jason to see the flat that I had found. I was a little bit worried as in the excitement of finding the place on Wednesday I'd totally forgot to memories the floor plan. I had a suspicion that the only shower in the flat was attached to one of the bedrooms. This would have been unacceptable. So we went back and low and behold, I was right. But... When we told the lady that was showing us around that we couldn't live like that she then told us that they were going to put a shower in the other small bathroom. They weren't going to do that if we had just accepted the place. I thought that was a little cheeky but what the hey?
So we put down our holding deposit and that was that. As long as the land lord doesn't change his/her mind between now and 27th the place is ours. Words cannot even begin to describe how much of a weight has been lifted from my mind. Now I can concentrate on the other aspects of moving like trying to work out where everything will go. I have an annoying suspicion that my shelving unit that I put all my records and everything else in is not going to fit which is a little annoying, but in the plus column, my table probably will so at least I can still host my sophisticated dinner parties... 'cos I'm fucking posh!
Then I popped round to Sinead's (my soon to be new neighbour) to continue fixing up her broadband. It was like pulling teeth. Damn you Wanado! I also found out that night that sweet chilli sauce on top of a peperoni pizza is the muts nuts. I shall be repeating that combo again, and soon!
So, what's the to do list look like now:
Buy & use paint in at least my bedroom.
- Hire window cleaner
- Hire & use carpet steam cleaner
- Hire large step ladder so that I can
- Fix one of the smoke alarms
Maybe (I haven't decided yet) repaint the entire hall/stairway Decided I can't be arsed with this I'm still wondering if I need to do the hallway and living room. I hope not as there is a lot of surface to paint there
Find a new place to live
Work out what I can take with me to the new place All done. The 'couch of doom' is going via the council collection service and all my studio gear is being picked up by my mate Ben as he's going to look after all that stuff for me.
Find a new home for the stuff that wont fit
Pack everything up
Throw away loads of shit - Chucked away a load of stuff on Wednesday. Will continue to do so over the coming weeks
Clean the entire house - Thia is going to be a lot easier now. I'm going to do all of this after I move out as I have 3 days between moving in to my new place and moving out of the old
Hire van - I was a bit worried about this as I'd have to return the van on a Monday and I don't have a driver on that day, BUT, my Dad will be up on the Monday to help with redecorating/cleaning so he can probably drive it back
This will probably involve phoning the council and arranging for them to dispose of my couch. (You win Kate) ;-) The council offer the service for about £20 or so. Job done!
I'm feeling a lot more calmer than I was a few days ago. Knowing I have somewhere to go to is a good thing. (And even if it all falls through at the last moment, I have a back up plan... Basically It'll cost me about £120 a month to put all my stuff in storage so I'll just do that and kip on people's floors for a month)
